This was a pretty common weekend problem here is Washington also. It wasn't unusual to have a mail log file that was 10 times larger then normal for the Sunday night - Monday morning period, seems that's the best time for these guys to pull this stunt.

Yesterday I installed Imgate (imgate.meiway.com) and made it active on my system. Instead of a 15 to 16 megabyte mail file, I have a 900k mail file. The spool isn't full of garbage returns and the mail server is much less loaded up.

We also played the block IP game, but as soon as you block one, they start coming in on another.

Imgate just requires a FreeBSD machine and Postfix so it's basically a free setup. There's a mailing list to help the Linux/Unix impaired (me) and it's working like a charm so far.
