I too have most of my traffic inside of a WAN. I have maybe 100 out of 5000 users on SMPT auth, so it is not a loading issue. Auth works fine for days, then stops several times in one day. Logs say nothing useful. I am running on a dual 733 Raid5 NT4 SP6 machine, 512K ram. The machine appears idle most of the time.
Failure mode is: Auth users are asked for Uname and Pword. Sometimes, if they wait 15 minutes or so they can try again and it works fine. Other times an smtp service reset is required.

I have SMTP AUTH working fine, never had a problem with it. Win2K Dual PIII 600 768 RAM RAID 5 - SCSI
I'm running FTP and IIS off the same box. I'll be moving FTP next week though.
It was also running find under my old box: NT 4 (SPs 4 - 6a) PII 550 512 RAM SCSI Mirror (Software based, yuck!)
I should point out though that I don't use SMTP AUTH very often. 90% of my traffic is from inside my WAN.

We have the same issue here. We were told by IP Switch today that they are aware of it and was working on it. We reported the problem on Monday. They would not give me a time frame.
We are having this problem a lot here. It can stop every few minutes or can last quite a while. We have not been able to successfully monitor it because the SMTP service shows it is running. If I restart the SMTP service it works for a while.
We had the same problem with version 6.05.
Has anybody solved this?
Does everyone who has this problem running Win2000 or multi-processors?
Does anyone have the SMTP AUTH working?
