On cable.....
1 Make sure you can get a static IP. Some cable providers will not give you this, because they know you are just going to use up a bunch of BW(how dare you) if they give you a static IP.
2 Make sure you shut down all ports not in use on the server. **AND** unbind netbios from the NIC. Because....A cable modem is really just a bridge(not a router)...Bridges pass broadcast packets. And in this case, anyone in your "hood" can see your resources.
3 Stick some kind of firewall in front of the server. The 24.x.x.x block is mostly for broadband cable, and therfore is a known easy target for hackers.
4 Make sure that you can talk the downstream provider(the cable company in your case)into doing a reverse map on your IP and domain. Otherwise anyone with a well implemented mail system will bounce your mail.
5 As far as the type of cable modem, anything will do.

Hi everyone. Just a quick one for you all, I am looking at having a cable modem install at my home, and It would be nice if i could use Imail for home system as well, for me and freinds, family etc, but i at a bit of a loss, with how to make it work, what cable modem should I use - WOULD IT WORK?.
