Imail 6.04c - NT4 sp5
After a post to a list a number of messages are processed but at some point the processing seems to pause or perhaps stop for a time. There is nothing really noticeable in the imail logs or the system logs. In Task Manager there will the one stmpd32 task but but showing about normal memory use and no cpu cycles. There are many - more than 30 - smtp tasks and almost all of them show to be using hardly any memory except one which will be fairly large.
I believe this also happens when any large number of messages are posted to the spool but I haven't been able to prove it for certain.
Stopping and starting imail does not really seem to affect it much nor does booting the server. But I can almost always make it start pumping again by doing a send one on any message in the spool from the applet.
I "feel" like there is also something involved with messages that have multiple retries although they seem to be handled fine after the send one is issued.
Interestingly and perhaps in line with a post a few days ago the list messages all have 5 recipients or fewer. But I don't really know if this is a factor or not.
As an example this morning a list was posted at about midnight. I believe there were about 130 messages placed in the spool. At 3:30 there were about 80 and nothing had been delivered for about 2 hours. I sent one and the spool emptied in 15 or 20 minutes or less - wasn't paying attention.
My workaround so far is to monitor the spool.
