Here is the proof:

The following log is from my server 1kom.net 216.216.179.130 trying to send directly to my AOL account. I did not receive the message. Waited/checked for 15 minutes. A test just after this one with relay worked, I received the second message. (Took about 1/2 minute) Times are GMT 12:29 03:56 SMTP-(000006C4) processing D:\IMail\spool\Q0b6128a.SMD 12:29 03:56 SMTP-(000006C4) Trying aol.com (0) 12:29 03:56 SMTP-(000006C4) Connect aol.com [152.163.224.26:25] (1) 12:29 03:56 SMTP-(000006C4) 220-rly-za05.mx.aol.com ESMTP relay_in.6; Thu, 28 Dec 2000 22:55:06 -0500 12:29 03:56 SMTP-(000006C4) 220-America Online (AOL) and its affiliated companies do not 12:29 03:56 SMTP-(000006C4) 220- authorize the use of its proprietary computers and computer 12:29 03:56 SMTP-(000006C4) 220- networks to accept, transmit, or distribute unsolicited bulk 12:29 03:56 SMTP-(000006C4) 220 e-mail sent from the internet. 12:29 03:56 SMTP-(000006C4) >EHLO turkiye.net 12:29 03:56 SMTP-(000006C4) 250-rly-za05.mx.aol.com athm-216-216-xxx-140.home.net 12:29 03:56 SMTP-(000006C4) 250 HELP 12:29 03:56 SMTP-(000006C4) >MAIL FROM:<omer@turkiye.net> 12:29 03:56 SMTP-(000006C4) 250 OK 12:29 03:56 SMTP-(000006C4) >RCPT To:<omerkomili@aol.com> 12:29 03:56 SMTP-(000006C4) 250 OK 12:29 03:56 SMTP-(000006C4) >DATA 12:29 03:56 SMTP-(000006C4) 354 START MAIL INPUT, END WITH "." Following is the same test but this time from another server turkiye.net (216.216.179.140) The first message which was sent direcly to AOL is not arrived. The second message is through a relay, it was delivered to my AOL account in 1 minute. The log for the relay is not available yet, but the log from Imail to relay is after the one below. The following is the unsuccessful receive at AOL from Imail (1kom.net).

Times are PST 12:28 20:13 SMTP-(000001AD) processing D:\IMAIL\spool\Q0f61232.SMD 12:28 20:13 SMTP-(000001AD) Trying aol.com (0) 12:28 20:13 SMTP-(000001AD) Connect aol.com [152.163.224.26:25] (1) 12:28 20:13 SMTP-(000001AD) 220-rly-za04.mx.aol.com ESMTP relay_in.2; Thu, 28 Dec 2000 23:10:29 -0500 12:28 20:13 SMTP-(000001AD) 220-America Online (AOL) and its affiliated companies do not 12:28 20:13 SMTP-(000001AD) 220- authorize the use of its proprietary computers and computer 12:28 20:13 SMTP-(000001AD) 220- networks to accept, transmit, or distribute unsolicited bulk 12:28 20:13 SMTP-(000001AD) 220 e-mail sent from the internet. 12:28 20:13 SMTP-(000001AD) >EHLO 1kom.net 12:28 20:13 SMTP-(000001AD) 250-rly-za04.mx.aol.com athm-216-216-xxx-130.home.net 12:28 20:13 SMTP-(000001AD) 250 HELP 12:28 20:13 SMTP-(000001AD) >MAIL FROM:<omers@1kom.net> 12:28 20:13 SMTP-(000001AD) 250 OK 12:28 20:13 SMTP-(000001AD) >RCPT To:<omerkomili@aol.com> 12:28 20:13 SMTP-(000001AD) 250 OK 12:28 20:13 SMTP-(000001AD) >DATA 12:28 20:13 SMTP-(000001AD) 354 START MAIL INPUT, END WITH "." Ok, the following one is the successful delivery to AOL using relay. I don't have the log from the relay to AOL, the following is from Imail to Relay. This message was received at AOL:

============================ What is puzzling me is, AOL receives successfully, but does not deliver! Isn't this unethical, even unlawful? I wasn't able to get any explanation from AOL.

The "[216.216.179.130] (may be forged)" message is I believe I don't have reverse DNS.

Thanks for helping,

Omer
