A script executes until done. The screen doesn't update in the middle. Search the Macromedia Flash (and Director) Technotes with phrase "repeat loop" for more.

Short take: Want to repeat an action? Then regularly execute it, via onClipEvent or other means, instead of trying to stay in one piece of script for a user-perceptible amount of time.
