Well, so far the fix seems to be one of two things:

1) Quit and restart Flash. This doesn't always work. 2) Break apart the symbol, delete it from the library and then recreate it. Seems to work more than quitting and restarting Flash.

Go figure.

I've only seen this happen when one of the images is not a library symbol. Since you say they both are, I haven't got a clue.

Maybe try in a new empty movie, with the same image imported and see what happens.
