Subject: RE: Mac Flash detection: restart required?

Hi, Laura,

No, that should NOT be the case, they just need to quit the browser they are using, install the plug-in and the browser will then start up again - automatically (?) - and take them to a flash confirmation page. (I think that's the events, been a long time since I did from scratch)

What browser(s) are they using ?? If they got IE 4.0, or 4.5 tell them to erase that (bad word censured !!!) of their HD and install either IE 5.0 or Netscape 4.5 or higher.

If any of your users ever have a problem with Flash sites on a Mac, your first question should be "... using IE 4 or 4.5 ???, if so UPGRADE"

I will start up my Mac later on for a test as well, but I'm fairly sure those are the problems they encounter. If I'm wrong, I'll let you know.

Hope that helps.

My dear fellow Flash Addicts,

I am having a problem with two Mac users who have tried to access my Flash 4 portfolio site.

They arrived without the Flash plug-in and were sent to a page telling them so, with a link to the Flash plug-in download page. (I'm using Colin Moock's Flash detection script).

Both users clicked the link, downloaded Flash, then returned to my site, only to be redirected again again and again to the page telling them they didn't have Flash.

I believe that somebody here mentioned that Macs need to be restarted after downloading the Flash plug-in, otherwise the plug-in will not recognized. Is that right? Is that the source of the above problem? Is there a better way to solve this issue?
