Following along Amy's track, I creat these files as psd files with alpha channels. Then import them into AW as psd files...set the mode to alpha

If all you want is a clean-edged drop shadow, have your artist create it against a pure white background, then make sure that he/she does NOT anti-alias the edges when flattening the image. Then you should get a white background that can be set to transparent, with no ugly white edges. Your designer may have to play around a bit to get the edge not to be ragged, but this should give you what you want. >>
