There are several Freeware tools I would reccomend before spending the $ on Premier (which i use daily). First try Bink! at http://www.radgametools.com/ This converts any video files to FLC/FLI files as well.

Or you can try Virtual Dub at http://www186.pair.com/vdub/ I think it is a nice editor, especially for the money.

Or if you will be using Windows Media Player for playback, and want good compression, use the WMP ActiveX control and convert your files to *.ASF files with Windows Media Encoder found here: http://download.cnet.com/downloads/0-10074-100-1995272.html?tag=st.dl.10001- 103-1.lst-7-2.1995272 The link is for ver 4.1, the 7.0 tools have been buggy for me, so I use 4.1.

Actually, for small projects without sound, Animation Shop included with Paint Shop Pro performs this function very well. One thing ? if you have audio on your AVI files, it is stripped out when converting to FLC/FLI files. That is when you need Premiere. You can pull off the Sound before you package. Then synchronize the audio later with the FLC/Files using Authoware sound and movie controls.
