The biggest issue when working with variables in Flash is understanding how to reference variables with the correct path. The information you want IS in the Flash help files. You need to use the instance name of the MC that contains the variable. (Make sure you've named the instance.)
So if the instance of MC A has the name "foo" then you reference that variable in other MCs by: foo.varname
Of course, this assumes that the instance of MC A is used at the root level of the movie.
