Alan, try installing a RAM drive through autoexec.bat (if you're running W95, that is). The system shouldn't "see" the portion you allocate to this as installed memory. You'll have less memory, but Authorware should run, and a RAM drive can be an amazing thing under many circumstances. Plus you won't have to physically downgrade your hardware.
I have a utility to help you set this up if you like. It should also work with W98, though I haven't tried. For W2K and NT there is a commercial utility that I use for creating virtual drives. Let me know off-list if you'd like more info.
