=============================================================== II. Lost CF Administrator Password By Nathan Stanford admin@cftipsplus.com ===============================================================
Many times I see emails in the ColdFusion email lists asking...
What do I do? I have lost my ColdFusion Administrator password.
I usally never recommend using Regedit for anything. However this is a great place to use it. Run Regedit and go to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Allaire\ColdFusion\CurrentVersion \Server
Change UseAdminPassword to be equal to 0
This disables the Admin Password so you can go in and change the admin password and then enable it.
While in Regedit take notice of
EnableCFREGISTRY
For most production sites this should be disabled. Disabling this could cause a problem. If you have moved the location of your ColdFusion Admin Pages to another directory. Since the ColdFusion Admin Pages use cfregistry you will not be able to get back in.
However look in Regedit at this String
UnsecuredTagsDirectory = C:\INETPUB\WWWROOT\CFIDE\Administrator
You will see this should reflect where you have your ColdFusion Administration pages.
Well that now brings up one more security issue. Anyone that has physical access to your webserver needs to be someone who can be trusted 100%. Also the same goes for anyone who has access to uploading files to the directory where your CF Admin pages are located.
