Subject: [defaced-l] Missed mails

Earlier today I had to temporarily suspend the defaced-l list. As a result, you have missed some messages that would normally go out. This occured due to excessive machine load as a result of a large number of defacements reported.

Yesterday, we pushed out over 125,000 pieces of mail. Six months ago, we were pushing out that much in seven or eight days. This single machine simply can't handle the increased volume of defaced-l mail on top of the web hits and other functions it performs.

One of the big changes we have made over the last week is auto-updating the mirror on the fly. Previously, we had done it in batches whenver we found the time. This also allowed us to keep better control of 'mass' hacks and our records more accurate. So if missed messages on the list are a concern, you can now check the main mirror for the latest defacements.

We are currently exploring other avenues in order to keep the list running. Bear with us as we grow.
