We have been working with 1.5 for the last couple of weeks and really like what we've seen so far.
we actually have a couple of projects going on right now which are being done on 1.5 (one of them was being developed on 1.01 but has not been upgraded).
It'll probably take us another couple of weeks to get enough experience to be more specific, but the UI is nicer, the webtop seems faster and even our existing application code seems to run quicker.

Depends on whether you are really having DB problems vs. Spectra tag use of DB problems. An example, I ran across recently is with cfa_ContentObjectFind.
The code for this tag in Spectra 1.01 is very slow if you do a COFind on a type with a couple of properties specified and you have more than say a few hundred objects. This has been rewritten in Spectra 1.5 and is a helluva lot faster (< 1 second in 1.5 vs > 50 seconds we were seeing for 5000 objects).
