Can SQL server be used to schedule execution of templates or just database events such as queries etc?
If not i think i'll go with every ones advice and use a batch file.

Yes, scheduler is unreliable. You are better off with a .bat file using NT's scheduled task or a cron job, depending on your OS. Coz
